Are you ready for the hunt? Bears Birds and Hatchery LLC offers a 40 acre field, planted in strips of milo, for hunting. This area is located right on the farm and is open to the public by invitation. We are located only 7 miles west of Route 47 on Jericho Road in Big Rock, Illinois. We offer morning and afternoon hunts. Reservations can be made in advance by phone or e-mail. Only one group is allowed in the field at a time, with a maximum of eight hunters. For each group there is a ten bird pheasant minimum for the use of the hunting area. So for example, at the cost of $250, plus $10 for each hunter in the field, you will have ten pheasants released into the hunting area, and you will have a half day to harvest your birds. If you are looking for a little more excitment, additional birds can be purchased at a cost of $25 per pheasant, $12 per chukar/quail released. In addition, you can use your own dog in the field, or with advance notice we also offer a guide service for a nominal fee. |
One of a Kind
Bears Birds is a one-of-a-kind hunting preserve. Unlike some public hunting areas, only one group is allowed in the field at a given time. This eliminates the hassle of boundary discretions with neighboring hunting parties. This also, opens opportunity to teach young hunters proper gun safety and hunting ethics by their peers, without being distracted by other people. Overall, your group is isolated in the wild. Not only have we established a hunting preserve, but we also run our own hatchery. We sell day-old pheasants and mallard ducklings. Over twenty thousand chicks are hatched every week and forty thousand are raised to maturity on our farm. We supply area hunt clubs and state parks, but we also ship mature birds out of state to other preserves. On top of the hunting preserve we allow dog trainers to use the hunting area and set there own birds for training. As with the hunting, the ten bird pheasant minimum still applies for dog training. This allows trainers to start a puppy out on birds or touch up on a master hunter. For more than 10 years, we have been providing an excellent area for hunters to come out and enjoy the hunting experience. We are NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Plan) approved, a standing member of IHOSA (Illinois Hunting and Outdoor Sport Association), BSA (Bird Shippers of America), and NAGA (North American Gamebird Association). |
